In a recent article, this phrase comes along:
“Marriage is evolving from a contract between families into a contract between individuals”.
And considering this as a self-evident truth, it continues. But, it assumes it to be the case, does not offer evidence to support it. Is this evolution measurable? How was it measured? So many counter examples can be so easily found that we should at least get offered some evidence of why this is true. Alas, we don’t.
And so many timeless proverbs put the focus on the other, not on the other’s family, that one may believe that it was never that different, but rather that the author looked at the situation in different places, assumed one was more advances than the other and just filled the gap with evolution.
